The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) reports no injuries so far to our overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) following a series of earthquakes that shook Taiwan early this morning, Saturday, 27 April 2024.
The first one, measuring magnitude 6.1, happened at 2:21 am while the second, at magnitude 5.8, occurred at 2:49 am reports Taiwan’s Central Weather Administration (CWA).
Migrant Workers Offices (MWOs) in Taipei, Taichung and Kaohsiung are on alert and monitoring the situation ready to assist any OFWs who may have been injured or affected by the earthquake.
In coordination with the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) led by Chairman Silvestre H. Bello III, DMW MWOs and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) officers and personnel are working with Filipino communities and leaders, local authorities, and employers to ascertain the safety and status of OFWs.
DMW Head Office in Mandaluyong will issue further bulletins as necessary.
