THE Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) confirmed that nine Filipino seafarers from the MV Eternity C are being held hostage by Houthi rebels in Yemen.
Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac assured the public that the DMW is working closely with the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and international partners to secure their safe release.
The nine hostages are among 21 Filipino crew members aboard the MV Eternity C, which was attacked by Houthi rebels in the Red Sea on July 7.
Eight crew members returned to the Philippines safely on July 17. Secretary Cacdac stated that survivors reported three fatalities, although this remains unconfirmed due to the lack of recovered bodies. One seafarer is still missing.
The families of the nine hostages have received calls from their loved ones following the release of a video by Houthi forces on Monday. The DMW continues its efforts to facilitate the safe return of all Filipino seafarers.
