The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has issued a heightened alert for all its offices in the Middle East due to escalating tensions between Israel and Iran.
This directive, issued by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac, places all front offices and Migrant Offices in countries such as Israel, Jordan, and Lebanon on high alert, recognizing their vulnerability to the ongoing conflict.
The DMW’s proactive response underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of Filipino overseas workers in the region.
The DMW’s preparedness extends beyond immediate monitoring of Israel and Iran. Undersecretary Bernard Olalia emphasized that the agency, in collaboration with the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), is prepared for potential escalation and wider regional conflict.
This comprehensive approach reflects an understanding that the instability in the region could impact Filipino workers in multiple countries, necessitating a broad-based response strategy. To facilitate immediate response and support, all labor attachés and DMW staff in the affected areas are now on 24/7 duty. Leaves have been canceled, and hotlines are fully operational around the clock to provide immediate assistance and address any concerns of Filipino workers.
