MIGRANT Workers Undersecretary Hans Cacdac said the agency is looking to repatriate all distressed overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Kuwait by the end of January.
In a radio interview over Super Radyo DzBB, Cacdac said “For the rest of next week, maibaba na sa 120 ang distressed OFWs sa Kuwait until makauwi na silang lahat by the end of this month.”
There were already 142 repatriated OFWs out of 421 distressed Kuwait OFWs since January 17, 2023.
Another batch of 120 would be arriving by next Tuesday.
Aside from having the OFWs back home, the evacuations also ease the situation at a Kuwait shelter that had exceeded its capacity.
“Bagama’t wala tayong nakitang distressed OFWs na nasa shelter na nabiktima ng malubhang physical abuse ng kanilang mga employer, nakikita pa rin ang abuses in terms sa paglabag sa kontrata,” he said.
The DMW said it offered a reintegration program for returning OFWs and provides them with small business investment and training.
