DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon has addressed the concerns raised by Sarah Discaya, whose family has been affected by the ongoing controversy surrounding alleged “ghost projects” within the department. Dizon acknowledged Discaya’s sentiments but emphasized that the investigation into the matter must proceed without being swayed by personal appeals.
He reiterated the department’s commitment to uncovering the truth and holding accountable anyone found to be involved in corrupt practices, regardless of their position or connections.
“Ang hindi ko lang maintindihan naaawa siya sa pamilya niya, naaawa siya kung kani-kanino, dapat maawa din siya sa mga taong biniktima nila yung mga taong binabaha sa Bulacan, yung mga taong binabaha doon sa Davao Occidental na kailangang kailangan nung eskwela at mga bahay doon ng flood control pero wala silang ginawa ghost project,” Dizon said.
Dizon stressed that while he understands the impact the allegations have on Discaya’s family, the primary focus remains on ensuring transparency and accountability within the DPWH. He stated that the investigation will be conducted fairly and impartially, based on evidence and facts, and that no one will be shielded from scrutiny.
The Secretary assured the public that the DPWH is taking the matter seriously and is working diligently to address the issues raised and prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
The controversy surrounding the “ghost projects” has prompted widespread calls for reform within the DPWH, with many demanding a thorough review of existing projects and stricter oversight mechanisms.
Dizon has pledged to implement measures to strengthen internal controls and enhance transparency in all DPWH operations. He also encouraged anyone with information related to the alleged irregularities to come forward and cooperate with the investigation, assuring them of their protection.
