FORMER senator Antonio Trillanes IV has taken legal action by filing a perjury complaint before the Department of Justice (DOJ) on Thursday, targeting 18 former Marines and several individuals over allegations related to a purported scheme involving International Criminal Court (ICC) investigators.
In addition to the perjury case, Trillanes filed cyberlibel complaints against lawyer Levito Baligod, former Congressman Mike Defensor, former broadcaster Jay Sonza, ex-NTF-ELCAC spokesperson Lorraine Badoy, and vlogger Cathy Binag. The cases stem from accusations that he received $2 million from Zaldy Co, a representative of Ako Bicol Party-List, purportedly for facilitating the entry of ICC investigators into the Philippines.
“Hindi po totoo ‘yan. Wala akong natanggap na $2 million para sa ICC operations. So itong ginawa nila ay paninira lang hindi lang sa akin kung hindi doon din sa imbestigador ng ICC,” Trillanes stated in an ambush interview, dismissing the allegations as baseless and part of a smear campaign against him and ICC investigators.
(This is not true. I did not accept $2 million for ICC operations. What they are doing is just defamation, not only against me but also against the ICC investigators.)
The former senator emphasized that the accusations are part of a broader effort to sabotage ongoing ICC proceedings, particularly those related to the Duterte administration.
