BALANGIGA, Eastern Samar — The Eastern Samar State University (ESSU) opened its first campus in Balangiga, Eastern Samar, on Aug. 17, 2023.
Rep. Jude A. Acidre of Tingog Partylist led the inauguration of ESSU’s Balangiga Campus together with Eastern Samar’s Governor Ben P. Everdone, Vice Governor Maricar Sison-Gotesaan, Balangiga Mayor Atty. Dana Flynch de Lira, Vice Mayor Danny Virgil B. Ablay and ESSU President Dr. Andres C. Pagatpatan Jr..
“Han diri pa ako Congressman, nagcocompare notes kami ni Dana. Dana, paghimo kita hin ESSU Balangiga. Malaksi huna hunaon kay tigsiring pa man la. We were all hoping that the day will come and we are finally here, we are very happy and very proud that this project of having our own campus here in Balangiga is finally realized,” Acidre said in his speech.
(When I was running as a Congressman, I used to compare notes with Dana. I told her, “Dana, let’s establish ESSU Balangiga”. it was so easy to say because, of course, we were only candidates back then…)
The said campus used to be one of Rep. Acidre and Mayor De Lina’s dream that eventually turned into reality.
“Tuod gud man, basta nagbuburublig, waray imposible,“ Mayor De Lira added.
(It’s true, nothing is impossible when you do things together).
ESSU Balangiga Campus is the first college institution in the said municipality in addition to the other six campuses of the university located in the municipalities of Borongan, Can-avid, Guiuan, Maydolong, Salcedo and Arteche.
At present, it has only four teachers but ESSU President Pagatpatan Jr. announced his plans to hire more teachers and staff in the coming days to complete the campus’ teaching staff.
