SUBSIDY programs for farmers and fisherfolk of the Department of Agriculture (DA) has been exempted from the election spending ban by the Commission on Election.
Comelec Commissioner George Erwin Garcia confirmed this to lawmakers during a hearing at the House of Representatives on Wednesday.
“As far as the request of DA, your honor, it was already approved,” Garcia told the House Committee on Suffrage and Electoral Reforms.
“We approved already without any limitations or restrictions because we honestly believe these are very important projects of the DA.”
Earlier, Agriculture Secretary William Dar has asked the poll body to allow the continuation of the distribution of P3,000 fuel discount vouchers to all eligible corn farmers and fisherfolk.
Under Comelec Resolution No. 10747, the release, disbursement, or expenditure of public funds is prohibited during the campaign period from March 25 until May 8, 2022.
The same resolution, however, allows exemptions from the spending ban provided that a certificate of exemption is secured to implement activities and programs on social welfare projects and services.
The Comelec earlier allowed the resumption of the distribution of assistance for drivers and operators of mass transport vehicles.
