GABRIELA party-list Rep. Arlene Brosas condemns the P32 billion stadium projects in Clark despite Filipinos sinking into poverty due to the continuous rise in food prices.
Brosas called this project a ‘misplacement of priorities’ as it is said to be built near Clark International Airport in the province, prioritizing it over the needs of the people.
“How many public hospitals, schools, or housing projects could be built with P32 billion? It’s like the government is living in their wildest dreams while ignoring the reality on the ground,” said Brosas.
The stadium is said to be built on a 40-hectare land to be used as an entertainment complex, as recently announced by Clark International Airport Corporation (CIAC) President Arrey Perez.
Construction of the project is set to begin soon, with the target of completion before President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. steps down in 2028.
“At a time when millions of Filipinos can barely put food on the table, the government still decided to allocate billions for a mega-stadium project that will not benefit the people,” Brosas added.
Although the stadium is said to be built through a public-private partnership (PPP), Brosas still questions it as it prioritizes the interests of businessmen over the public.
“We cannot allow the nation’s funds to be used for projects primarily benefiting big businesses while the people bear the risks and costs,” Brosas further stated. Because of this, the lawmaker suggested that the government use this fund to address the issues faced by Filipinos such as unemployment, public services, and land reform.
