THE Senate is set to launch a separate investigation into the drug war during former President Rodrigo Duterte’s administration, with the probe likely to include a summons to Duterte himself.
Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa, who served as Duterte’s former police chief and now chairs the Senate Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs, confirmed that the committee will call Duterte and former Cabinet members as resource persons. While Dela Rosa has yet to inform Duterte of the planned probe, he expressed confidence that the former president would cooperate.
The investigation will be conducted during the Senate session break, with the committee citing a pending resolution concerning alleged drug smuggling involving Duterte’s son, Davao City 1st District Rep. Paolo Duterte, as justification for their motu propio investigation.
This separate Senate probe comes after the House of Representatives’ quad-committee has repeatedly invited both Duterte and Dela Rosa to testify regarding the drug war during the previous administration.
