MANAGEMENT of the Doublegem EDSA Garden Events Place has confirmed that the planned hearing organized by Senator Alan Peter Cayetano’s camp regarding issues on flood control projects will no longer push through.
The event was earlier announced by former congressman Mike Defensor to proceed on Tuesday outside the Senate premises, though he had noted that no confirmation had been received yet from senators allied with Cayetano.
In an official statement, the venue management said: “Doublegem EDSA Garden Events Place respectfully informs the public that the scheduled Blue Ribbon Committee event at our venue will no longer proceed as originally planned.” The announcement effectively puts to rest expectations that the inquiry would take place at the said location, which had been chosen as an alternative venue amid the ongoing leadership disputes within the Senate.
The management also clarified its position regarding the activity, emphasizing that it was merely a provider of space and had no part in the program itself. “We would also like to reiterate that Doublegem EDSA Garden Events Place has no affiliation whatsoever with the organizers, participants, or subject matter of the event,” it added. This clarification was issued to ensure the public understands that the venue is not involved in the political or legal aspects surrounding the proposed inquiry.
The planned hearing was meant to look into concerns over flood control projects, but uncertainties had arisen even before the cancellation was announced.
Defensor had earlier stated that the activity would go ahead, yet acknowledged the lack of confirmation from the senators concerned. With the event now called off, it remains unclear whether the inquiry will be rescheduled, moved to another location, or dropped entirely amid the Senate’s internal political tensions.
