Sandigan issues arrest warrant vs Rep. Jojo Ang over 14 graft cases

Metrosundaily July 27, 2026

THE Sandiganbayan has ordered the arrest of Uswag Ilonggo Party‑list Representative James “Jojo” Ang Jr. in connection with 14 counts of graft filed against him.

The anti‑graft court’s Third Division issued the warrant just two days after the Office of the Ombudsman formally indicted Ang for allegedly holding a private interest in a construction firm that secured ₱214 million worth of projects from the Department of Public Works and Highways while he was serving as a lawmaker. The firm reportedly received nearly ₱199 million in payments for these contracts.

In issuing the order, the court explained that it found sufficient probable cause against the accused after a thorough review of the Ombudsman’s resolution and all supporting evidence.

“After a careful review of the resolution and its supporting documents, as well as the records, the court finds that probable cause exists in this case, pursuant to the Rules of Criminal Procedure. Accordingly, let a warrant of arrest be issued against accused James Ang, Jr.,” the ruling stated. The court also directed the issuance of a Hold Departure Order to prevent Ang from leaving the country while the case proceeds.

The charges stem from an alleged violation of constitutional and legal prohibitions that bar public officials from having direct or indirect financial interest in government contracts.

The law is designed to ensure that public office is not used for personal gain and that all transactions remain fair and transparent. The arrest warrant marks a significant step in the legal process, as authorities move to enforce accountability and bring the accused before the court to answer the allegations against him.
