SOURCES at the House of Representatives said that Speaker Martin Romualdez is expected to step down from his post on Wednesday, with Isabela Rep. Faustino “Bojie” Dy III reportedly slated to become the new Speaker of the House of Representatives.
The session on Tuesday was abruptly suspended after just 30 minutes amidst swirling rumors of a leadership change, fueled by ongoing investigations into alleged irregularities in flood control projects.
While some sources suggested Romualdez might take a leave of absence, Navotas Rep. Toby Tiangco emphasized that any attempt to replace the Speaker without the President’s approval would be futile, acknowledging Malacañang’s significant influence on the Speakership. Tiangco stated that out of respect for Malacañang, no moves would be made without its blessing.
Prior to the rumors, Romualdez met with House committee chairpersons on Monday to discuss pressing issues and challenges facing the chamber, reiterating the need to continue investigations into corruption to uncover the truth. He also engaged with women lawmakers advocating for advancements in health, education, livelihood, and protection for women and children.
