REPRESENTATIVE Toby Tiangco has lauded President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s announcement that the passport of Zaldy Co, a key figure in the multi-billion peso flood control corruption scandal, has been canceled. Tiangco described the move as a welcome development and the end of a long wait.
“The announcement by President Bongbong Marcos that Zaldy Co’s passport has been canceled is a welcome development,” Tiangco said in a statement. “Finally, the very long wait is over.”
Tiangco emphasized that there were clear grounds for the passport cancellation, which he had been advocating for some time. “We have been requesting this for a long time because the basis is clear,” he said. “If there was a ‘passport to freedom’ before, it seems there is now a one-way ticket to accountability.”
The representative urged Philippine embassies in various countries to exert every effort to locate Zaldy Co and ensure his return to the Philippines. “Philippine Embassies in various countries need to do everything they can to find Zaldy Co and bring him back to the Philippines,” Tiangco stated.
Tiangco pledged to continue monitoring the situation to ensure that Zaldy Co faces justice. “We will continue to monitor to ensure that Zaldy Co faces justice,” he said. “We support the steps to hold accountable all those who abused the trust and funds of the Filipino people.”
