Rep. Lani Mercado-Revilla says SONA must tackle real-life struggles

admin July 28, 2025

AS President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is set to deliver his fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA) today, July 28, Cavite Second District Representative Lani Mercado-Revilla expressed hope that the President will present actionable plans to address pressing issues faced by Filipinos, including food security, disaster response, transport disruption, and learning crisis in the context of economic development.

She emphasized that food security is national security. Supporting our agricultural industry in light of global climate developments and market disruptions is key to making sure that Filipino families don’t go to bed hungry.

The string of weather disturbances brought to light gaps in the country’s disaster response, infrastructure plans, and transport systems. A thorough review of infrastructure programs in the context of climate changes is essential, she said. Cong. Lani also emphasized the need for an effective and efficient public transport system and hopes it would be one of this administration’s legacy. In particular, making the LRT Line 1 Cavite Extension as one of the administration’s priorities for the remainder of his term will provide a great relief not only to the citizens of Bacoor but to the province of Cavite.

Furthermore, Cong. Lani called on straightforward strategies to address the ongoing educational crisis. “If we hope to have a brighter future, then addressing the current problems faced by the education of our youth is imperative.”

“We are eager to hear how the administration will address the issues that Filipinos face every day while at the same time providing an economic environment that attracts local and foreign investment and opens employment opportunities for our kababayans,” said Cong. Lani.

“We hope the priorities outlined by the administration in today’s SONA will strengthen our work in supporting their aspirations, protecting their dignity, and helping them secure a better future for their loved ones,” Cong. Lani said.
