INAPRUBAHAN na ng Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) ang hiling ng Manila Water Company Inc. at Maynilad Water Services Inc. ang rate increase na hiniling ng dalawang water concessionaire.
Sinabi ni MWSS-Regulatory Office chief regulator Patrick Ty, na inaprubahan ng ahensiya ang rate rebasing adjustments ng dalawang kompanya na ipatutupad mula 2023 hanggang 2027, ayon sa report ng GMA News.
Ang rate rebasing ay proseso na isinasagawa tuwing ikalimang taon para suriin ang antas ng singil sa water and sewerage services na kailangang mabawi ng water concessionaires kaugnay sa kanilang gastusin sa operasyon at pagpapahusay sa serbisyo.
Humirit ang Manila Water ng taas-singil na per cubic meter water na P8.04 simula sa 2023, P5 per cubic meter sa 2024, P3.25 per cubic meter sa 2025, P1.91 hanggang P3.00 per cubic meter sa 2026, at sa pagitan ng P1.05 at P1.08 per cubic meter sa 2027.
Nakalaan umano ang gagawing rate adjustment ng Manila Water para mapondohan ang P180-bilyong operational requirements nila sa susunod na limang taon.
Samantala, humingi naman ang Maynilad ng P3.29 per cubic meter na water rate adjustment simula sa Enero 2023.
Sa mga susunod na taon, iminungkahi ng Maynilad ang P6.26 increase sa 2024, P2.12 sa 2025, at P0.84 hanggang higit P1 mula 2026 hanggang 2027.
Ilalaan naman daw ang naturang rate adjustment ng Maynilad para sa P150-billion expansion plan na ipatutupad sa loob ng susunod na limang taon.
Ayon kay Ty, inaprubahan ng NWSS ang naturang kahilingan matapos umano ang serye ng “public consultation drives” na isinagawa mula July hanggang October ngayong taon.
“These rate adjustments will enable Manila Water and Maynilad to provide the highest quality of water, sanitation, and sewerage services that their customers deserve. These include the development of additional water sources that will ensure continuous improvements in the supply of safe drinking water as well as the expansion of environmentally safe wastewater services within the concession areas,” anang opisyal.
“The Office assures the public that it remains relentless in protecting their interest and welfare, and that it is committed to upholding transparency, accountability, and citizen participation in governance,” dagdag pa niya.
