NOW that the Philippine National Police (PNP) has apprehended Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) leader Pastor Apollo Quiboloy after 16 days of pursuit, it is time to go after those who hid him as well.
This is the challenge posed by lawmakers in the House of Representatives after Quiboloy surrendered following a 24-hour ultimatum to turn himself in once the building in the KOJC compound where he was hiding was located.
“We call for an investigation into his number one protector and all those who have enabled his evasion from justice. The rule of law must prevail, and no one should be above it,” said House deputy minority leader France Castro.
“We should be vigilant now to ensure that those like Quiboloy are held accountable. Additionally, those who aided in Quiboloy’s concealment should also be investigated and held accountable because this ‘Appointed Son of God’ is not above the law,” according to Kabataan party-list Rep. Raoul Manuel.
Manila Rep. Rolando Valeriano also made the same appeal to the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) because, according to him, if no one had hidden Quiboloy, the Philippine National Police (PNP) operation at the KOJC compound in Buhangin, Davao City would not have lasted for 16 days.
At the same time, Valeriano recommended that religious organizations such as KOJC be taxed.
“I also believe that it is timely for the government to consider whether there should be ‘reasonable regulation and taxation’ on religious organizations,” explained Valeriano.
Currently, religious organizations are not subject to taxation due to the existing separation of church and state.
Lawmakers also commended the PNP for succeeding in apprehending Quiboloy and his co-accused in the non-bailable cases at the Pasig City Regional Trial Court after 16 days of pursuit, proving that “no one is above the law.”
“No one is above the law. Not even a pastor claiming to be the Son of God, who just happens to be accused of horrendous crimes,” said Bukidnon Rep. Keith Flores, supported by Ako Bicol Party-list Rep. Elizaldy Co.
