PTV GM Toby Nebrida resigns; Orbos appointed as officer-in-charge

admin March 4, 2025

Former PTV 4 General Manager Toby Nebrida

PRESIDENTIAL Communications Office (PCO) Ad Interim Secretary Jay Ruiz announced on Tuesday the acceptance of Toby Nebrida’s courtesy resignation as general manager of the People’s Television Network (PTV). This follows Monday’s announcement that Oscar Orbos would serve as PTV’s officer-in-charge.

Secretary Ruiz cited unspecified complaints from PTV employees as the reason for the change.

The resignations are part of a broader directive from Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, who ordered all presidential appointees within the PCO to submit courtesy resignations.

This measure, according to Bersamin, aims to give the newly appointed PCO secretary a “free hand” in selecting their team and implementing their policies. Secretary Ruiz emphasized that the request for resignations was not personal, stating that it’s standard procedure for presidential appointees to allow the new secretary to build a team they trust.

Orbos, 74, brings a wealth of experience to the position. He served as Executive Secretary and Secretary of Transportation and Communications under President Corazon Aquino from 1990 to 1991.

His political career also includes serving as a congressman for Pangasinan’s first district (1987-1990) and governor of Pangasinan (1995-1998). Beyond politics, Orbos is also known for co-hosting GMA Network’s “Debate with Mare at Pare” with economist Solita “Mareng Winnie” Monsod.
