PSA, DFA asked to crackdown syndicates on fake PH IDs, docs issued to foreigners

SENATOR Loren Legarda called on the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) and the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) to crack down on syndicates that take advantage of Philippine processes in securing government-issued documents for foreigners.

At the hearing of the Committee on Women, Children, Family Relations and Gender Equality Wednesday, May 22, 2024, Legarda stressed that the issuance of fake birth certificates and other civil registry documents to aliens could result not only in inequity in the provision of government services, but also dangers to national security.

“Nade-deprive tuloy ang ibang Pilipino sa mga benepisyo. At hindi lang ‘yan, maaari pang mahalal sa mga posisyon na maaaring maging national security issue,” Legarda said.

Meanwhile, Legarda quizzed Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo on her upbringing in the Philippines, amid claims of the latter’s link to Philippine offshore gaming operators (POGOs).
