PNP warns public vs spam messages

admin December 16, 2021

THE Philippine National Police (PNP) warns the public against spam messages that supposedly offer job opportunities and other Christmas perks and freebies.https://metrosundaily.com/Christmas perks and freebies.

Spamming is a method of scamming prospect victims to respond to these text messages which are sent in bulk by an unknown sender.

The modus operandi is to lure the subscriber to click on the bait link that will subsequently redirect the user to a messaging application where his/her personal and sensitive information will be collected.

“Most victims fall prey to these traps when being offered jobs such as processing online orders of a shopping app. Scammers pretend to be connected with well-established companies who shall process the job application,” PNP. Chief Dionardo Carlos said.

The PNP reminds the public that to counter this, it is best to check on the background of the said company before disclosing anything to the other party involved. Ignore messages from anonymous sender.

Do not just give vital information without verifying the legitimacy of the transaction.

Once you fail to red flag this attempt, you are vulnerable candidate for Identity Theft.

For further assistance and complaints, the public can visit https://acg.gov.ph/eComplaint and through their Facebook page @anticybercrimegroup or hotline number 09054146965.
