PHILIPPINE National Police Chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin.
PHILIPPINE National Police Chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin said tracker team are now ready to hunt down suspended Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) chief Gerard Bantag and his deputy Ricardo Zulueta should they decide not to surrender once an arrest warrant is issued against them in connection with the killing of broadcast journalist Percival Mabasa and alleged middleman Jun Villamor.
Azurin also said the PNP is willing to provide security for Bantag but as of presstime, there is no response from him.
Azurin, Jr. said the police tracker teams would be tapped if the duo chooses to hide instead of facing the two counts of murder filed against them.
“In the event that a warrant of arrest is issued, there will definitely be tracker teams to look for them. So far now, we are just monitoring. We are just validating information where they are,” said Azurin.
He, however, said that what the PNP is doing in the meantime is to monitor the whereabouts of the Bantag and Zulueta.
Bantag and Zulueta were tagged as the brains behind the killing of Mabasa and Villamor. They were charged on Monday along with other inmates of the New Bilibid Prisons who planned and tapped the assassination team that killed Mabasa on October 3.
The same inmates were also tagged in the killing of Villamor who was allegedly killed as part of the cover up.
“Since the case has been filed, we have yet to wait for the determination of prima facie evidence by the Prosecutor’s Office,” said Azurin.
