THE Philippine National Police (PNP) joins the Commission on Human Rights in condemning the violent attack initiated by members of the communist New People’s Army (NPA) on the camp of 504th Police Maneuver Company in Pilar town, Sorsogon last February 28.
The reported successive firing of rebels resulted in the death of Police Corporal Ryan Atos.
CHR spokesperson Jacqueline De Guia said in a statement, “Atrocious attacks that deliberately violate the right to life cannot be justified under any ideology or circumstance.”
“We feel for the family of the victim. Our comrade who died in the line of duty must be given his share of justice. His death will not go in vain. We thank the CHR for expressing concern regarding this blatant violation of human rights,” PNP Chief General Dionardo Carlos said.
While the PNP is conducting its investigation on the case, the CHR has also vowed to proceed with their separate probe.
“This will be of great help in identifying and prosecuting those responsible for the crime,” Carlos said.
