PNP dismisses Chinese gov’t’s crime warning, cites declining crime rate

admin September 1, 2025

THE Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday dismissed the Chinese government’s warning regarding alleged worsening crimes targeting its citizens in Manila, asserting that the overall crime situation in the Philippines is not deteriorating.

PNP Public Information Office (PIO) chief Police Brigadier General Randulf Tuaño stated during a press briefing that crime incidents have, in fact, declined significantly.

Tuaño pointed out that crime incidents have decreased from 26,969 in January-August 2024 to 22,519 in the same period this year, representing a 16.50% reduction, or 4,450 fewer incidents.

While acknowledging that the police have monitored 21 incidents of kidnapping involving Chinese nationals this year, Tuaño emphasized that these cases typically involve Chinese nationals victimizing other Chinese nationals.

The PNP’s response aims to reassure both the public and the international community that the Philippines remains a safe destination.
