THE Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has officially cancelled its tsunami advisory issued earlier today following an 8.7 magnitude earthquake that struck the East Coast of Kamchatka, Russia at 7:25 AM (PST).
The advisory had initially warned of a potential minor sea level disturbance along the coastal areas of Batanes Group of Islands, Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora, Quezon, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Albay, Sorsogon, Catanduanes, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Leyte, Southern Leyte, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Davao del Norte, Davao Oriental, Davao Occidental, Davao del Sur, and Davao de Oro.
However, Phivolcs reported that no significant sea level disturbances or damaging tsunami waves were recorded at any of its monitoring stations. Consequently, all recommendations related to the tsunami alert have been lifted.
