PBBM’s desire for admin coalition for 2025 polls gets House support

admin May 2, 2024

LEADERS of the House of Representatives on Thursday supported the desire of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. for an administration coalition that would field candidates in the May 2025 midterm elections.

“Bilang isang miyembro po ng Lakas, ako po siyempre masaya po ako na ‘yun po ang ninanais ng ating mahal na Pangulo, given na from the beginning during the campaign period his message was all about unity,” Deputy Majority Leader Faustino “Inno” Dy V (Isabela, 6th District), told a news conference.

“And so, it is really just appropriate na under I guess sa coalition and alliances between the parties na we continue on that path of unity for the sake of progress, for the sake of development in our country. Kaya naman po kami, ako po, on my part being a member of Lakas, ako po ay masaya na ‘yun po ang kagustuhan ng ating mahal na Pangulo,” Dy said.

Dy said he was sure other Lakas members felt the same about the President’s pronouncement.

Lakas-CMD, led by Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez, is the largest political group in Congress.

Another Lakas member, Assistant Majority Leader Mikaela Angela “Mika” Suansing (Nueva Ecija, 1st District), said she too was happy with the President’s statement.

And I’m very excited because I believe this administration and our dear President is that factor that can really unite the different parties,” she said.

“And of course, our Speaker, Speaker Martin Romualdez who is also our leader in Lakas CMD, we’ll defer to his wisdom in terms of working through this potential alliance across the different parties. But Speaker Romualdez also done a very, very good job in uniting the different parties within Congress to work together towards passing the landmark legislation,” Suansing said.

She cited the Speaker’s successful shepherding of the approval of all priority administration bills, mustering the support of political parties in the House.

For her part, Assistant Majority Leader Amparo Maria “Pammy” Zamora (Taguig City, 2nd District), who is a member of the Nacionalista Party (NP), said she welcomed the President’s pronouncement.

“We’re very very happy na gusto niya makipag-coalesce sa iba’t ibang partido lalo dito sa House. And it will always bring us forward, mas maganda po iyon na nagkakaisa po kaming lahat,” she said.

Acidre said the record accomplishment of the House in terms of passing priority administration bills is proof of what unity of political parties can achieve.
