President Ferdinand "Bongbong" R. Marcos Jr., assisted by Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez, National Housing Authority General Manager Joeben Tai and Human Settlement and Urban Development Secretary Jose Acuzar, leads the ceremonial turnover of eight completed Yolanda Permanent Housing Program (YPHP) Projects in Leyte, Sama and Biliran. The event was held at the Burauen Community College Multi-Purpose Gym,Burauen, Leyte on Friday morning. PRESIDENT Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and House Speaker Martin Romualdez led the ceremonial turnover of 3,517 completed housing units under the Yolanda Permanent Housing Program (YPHP) in Leyte today. The event marks a significant milestone in the government’s ongoing commitment to rebuilding communities devastated by Typhoon Yolanda eleven years ago.
The symbolic key turnover ceremony, held in Burauen, Leyte, involved eight municipalities across Leyte, Samar, and Biliran. These housing projects, spearheaded by the National Housing Authority (NHA), aim to provide permanent and dignified homes for Yolanda survivors. Speaker Romualdez expressed gratitude to President Marcos for his continued support, emphasizing that the project symbolizes the resilience of the Filipino people.
The completed housing units are located in: Cool Spring Residences (Burauen), Riverside Community Residences (Tabontabon), Mont Village Subdivision (Tanauan), Coconut Grove Village (Julita), Marabut Village Sites 1 & 2 (Marabut), Pastrana Ville (Pastrana), Dagami Town Ville (Dagami), and Culaba Housing Project (Culaba). Of the 3,517 units, 1,963 have already been awarded and occupied by beneficiaries. Each unit boasts a floor area of 22 to 28.6 square meters on a 40-square-meter lot.
The event included the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) and Deed of Donation and Acceptance (DODA), formalizing the transfer of ownership. Municipal mayors expressed gratitude on behalf of their constituents, highlighting the collaborative efforts between national and local governments.
Speaker Romualdez underscored the importance of disaster preparedness and recovery programs, reiterating his commitment to advocating for such initiatives in Congress. He emphasized that these homes represent not just shelter, but also renewed hope and dignity for Yolanda survivors.
The NHA reported that as of December 2024, 175,728 out of a targeted 189,800 housing units have been completed nationwide, with the remaining units expected to be finished by December 2025. Approximately 67% of completed units have already been awarded and occupied.
