Malacañang on Thursday refuted speculations that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is orchestrating a change in leadership within the House of Representatives to remove Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III from his position.
Palace press officer Claire Castro clarified that the selection of congressional leaders is exclusively within the purview of the members of the lower chamber.
“The choice of congressional leaders is not in the hands of the President. Whatever their decision may be, whatever their management may be, that is not within the scope of the President,” Castro stated. Rumors had circulated suggesting that Deputy Speaker Ronaldo Puno was the supposed Palace-backed successor to Dy, but Castro firmly dismissed any suggestion of presidential involvement in the matter.
It’s worth noting that Dy assumed the role of House Speaker just over two months ago, succeeding Leyte Rep. Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, amidst widespread public anger over corruption allegations linked to flood control projects and budget insertions.
