Palace condemns use of Tantoco family’s grief for political purposes

Metrosundaily July 15, 2025

PRESIDENTIAL Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro condemned the alleged exploitation of the grieving Tantoco family for political gain, accusing unnamed individuals of using their sorrow to attack President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and the administration.

Castro expressed strong disapproval of this tactic, stating, “Nakakahiya ang kanilang ginagawa” (Their actions are shameful). The Palace did not directly name those it believes are responsible but implied that they are using the family’s grief to further their own political agendas.

The statement highlights the Palace’s concern about the politicization of a sensitive situation and its commitment to protecting the grieving family from further exploitation.

The strong condemnation suggests that the Palace intends to take action to address the situation, although the specific measures remain unclear.

The Palace’s response underscores the need for sensitivity and respect during times of grief and emphasizes the importance of separating political agendas from personal tragedies. The Palace’s actions in response to this situation will be closely watched.
