SENATOR Robin Padilla has formally ruled out seeking national office in the 2028 elections, saying he wants to step away from politics to focus on his young children and live a quiet, private life.
Padilla’s decision removes his name from consideration as a potential running mate or candidate for higher office, marking a notable departure from the political spotlight after his term concludes. He emphasized that family considerations and a desire for peace of mind guided his choice, even as he remains engaged in public affairs until his tenure ends.
Although he will not be on the ballot himself, Padilla offered several names he believes would make strong vice‑presidential candidates to join Vice President Sara Duterte’s ticket. His list includes Senators Alan Peter Cayetano, Imee Marcos, Bong Go, Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, former Representative Rodante Marcoleta, and former Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo. Duterte previously declared in February that she intends to run for president in 2028, launching her campaign for the country’s highest elective post and setting the stage for coalition building across political groups.
