P62M agri damage, losses due to ‘Egay’ expected to rise

BASED on assessments made by the DA Regional Field Offices, damage and losses have been reported in Cordillera Administrative Region, Ilocos Region, CALABARZON MIMAROPA, and Caraga which amounts to P62.0 million, affecting 3,679 farmers, with volume of production loss at 2,035.4 metric tons and 4,315 hectares of agricultural areas.

Affected commodities include rice, corn, livestock and poultry. Additional damage and losses are expected in areas affected by “EGAY”.

ACTIONS TAKEN BY THE DEPARTMENT

The DA, through its RFOs, is conducting assessment of damage and losses brought by “EGAY” in the agriculture and fishery sector

The DA continuously coordinates with concerned NGAs, LGUs, and other DRRM-related offices for the impacts of “EGAY”, as well as available resources for interventions and assistance.

AVAILABLE INTERVENTIONS

The following assistance are available for distribution to affected farmers and fishers:

1. Rice, corn and assorted vegetable seeds;

2. Drugs and biologics for livestock and poultry;

3. Fingerlings assistance to affected fisherfolk from Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR);

4. Survival and Recovery (SURE) Loan Program from the Agricultural Credit Policy Council (ACPC) with loanable amount of up to PhP 25,000 payable in three years at zero interest; and

5. Quick Response Fund (QRF) for the rehabilitation of affected areas.

The DA-DRRM Operations Center will continuously provide updates regarding TY ‘EGAY’.
