P4.6M worth of forfeited goods destroyed

admin June 9, 2022

AS part of BOC-NAIA’s effort to ensure that Port of NAIA’s warehouses and facilities can accommodate all incoming importations, the Port on June 6, 2022 conducted condemnation proceeding on various abandoned and forfeited goods with estimated value of P 4.605 million.

The goods condemned consist of various goods such as expired and unregistered food items, used UV lamps, prohibited Chinese medicines, and 60 cartons of counterfeit cigarettes with an estimated market value of P3.893 Million. All goods underwent condemnation through pyrolysis under the supervision of BOC-NAIA’s Auction and Cargo Disposal Division.

In her statement, District Collector Carmelita Talusan stressed the importance of preventing the entry of prohibited goods especially medicines and food products that were illegally imported without the necessary permits. Collector Talusan also highlighted the importance of ensuring ease of doing business and expeditious release of goods.

As the country geared towards full economy recovery from the onslaughts of the Covid-19 pandemic thru enhanced international trade activities, among others, BOC-NAIA, under the leadership of Commissioner Rey Leonardo B. Guerrero, remains committed to serve as one of the nation’s premier ports in terms of trade facilitation, revenue collection and border protection.
