THE Philippine National Police (PNP) reported on Tuesday that a total of 250 individuals have been arrested for violating the election gun ban as of Monday evening.
The majority of arrests (65 each) occurred in Metro Manila and Central Luzon, followed by Central Visayas (31) and Calabarzon (17).
The PNP’s update, released at 11:59 p.m. on Monday, detailed the seizure of 255 firearms, with Metro Manila (67), Central Luzon (64), and Central Visayas (31) reporting the highest numbers. Confiscated items included 115 revolvers, 71 pistols, six shotguns, six explosives, a Class A firearm, a rifle, and 55 other items.
Among those arrested were two Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) personnel, one employee from another government agency, 10 security guards, and two foreign nationals.
The gun ban, implemented under Commission on Elections (Comelec) Resolution No. 11067, is in effect from January 12 to June 11, 2025, aiming to reduce election-related violence. The election period, which began on January 12, has seen the establishment of Comelec checkpoints nationwide.
The campaign period for senatorial and party-list candidates runs from February 11 to March 10, 2025. The campaign period for House of Representatives and local candidates will be from March 28 to May 10, 2025. Overseas voting is scheduled from April 13 to May 12, while local absentee voting will take place from April 28 to 30.
