Ombudsman files 14 graft charges vs Partylist Rep. Ang over P214M contracts

Metrosundaily July 25, 2026

THE Office of the Ombudsman has filed 14 counts of graft against Uswag Ilonggo Party‑list Representative Jojo Ang Jr., identified as one of the so‑called “cong‑tractors” flagged in the ongoing probe into flood‑control projects.

Assistant Ombudsman Mico Clavano disclosed that while serving as a lawmaker, Ang maintained a financial interest in a construction firm that secured ₱214 million worth of contracts from the Department of Public Works and Highways, and has already received nearly ₱199 million in payments for these projects.

The charges were formally lodged just days before President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. delivers his fifth State of the Nation Address on Monday, July 27. The case underscores the government’s intensified crackdown on lawmakers who allegedly use their position to secure lucrative government contracts for businesses they own or are affiliated with — a practice that violates prohibitions against conflict of interest and misuse of public funds.

Investigators emphasized that the filing is part of broader efforts to ensure transparency and accountability in infrastructure spending, particularly amid persistent concerns over delayed and unfinished flood‑control projects. The Ombudsman assured that the cases will be prosecuted with due diligence, sending a clear message that public office cannot be used for personal gain. Rep. Ang has yet to issue a statement regarding the allegations and the charges filed against him.
