No ICC arrest warrant yet for Dela Rosa, says Bersamin

Metrosundaily July 20, 2025

EXECUTIVE Secretary Lucas Bersamin has confirmed that no arrest warrant has been issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa in connection with the previous administration’s controversial war on drugs.

Bersamin made the statement on Sunday at Villamor Air Base in Pasay City, clarifying reports circulating about potential ICC action against the senator. He emphasized that the absence of a warrant means there is currently no legal basis for Philippine authorities to arrest Dela Rosa.

However, Bersamin indicated that the situation could change. Should the ICC issue an arrest warrant for Senator dela Rosa and route it through Interpol, Philippine authorities would likely proceed with an arrest, mirroring the actions taken regarding former president Rodrigo Duterte.

This approach, Bersamin stated, underscores the country’s continued adherence to Interpol protocols and its commitment to upholding international legal processes. The government’s response, he stressed, would remain consistent with existing legal frameworks unless otherwise directed by the Supreme Court.

Bersamin further asserted that any actions taken by the Philippine government would be non-discriminatory and strictly in accordance with the law.

He rejected claims of political motivation, stating that such accusations are unfair. This stance aims to reassure the public that the government’s handling of potential ICC warrants is impartial and solely based on legal considerations, not political influence or bias.
