A NEW Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey reveals that a significant majority of Filipinos – nearly nine in ten – believe Vice President Sara Duterte should directly address the impeachment charges filed against her.
The survey, conducted recently, found that 68% of respondents strongly believe she should “definitely” respond to the allegations, while an additional 20% indicated she “probably should.”
This overwhelming support for Duterte’s active engagement with the impeachment proceedings underscores a widespread public desire for clarity and transparency regarding the accusations.
The impeachment charges, filed in the House of Representatives in February, include allegations of misuse of confidential funds and making death threats against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., amongst other serious accusations.
While Duterte has expressed a willingness to face the Senate trial, even stating her anticipation for a “bloodbath,” she simultaneously filed a petition with the Supreme Court to halt the proceedings. This seemingly contradictory stance has likely fueled public interest and the desire for a direct response from the Vice President herself.
The SWS survey results highlight a strong public sentiment favoring a transparent and accountable approach to the impeachment process.
The mere 7% of respondents who believe Duterte should avoid addressing the charges represent a small minority opinion.
This widespread public expectation for Duterte to actively engage with the allegations underscores the importance of the issue within the Filipino populace and the significant weight placed upon the Vice President’s response to the accusations.
The survey’s findings will undoubtedly influence public perception of the ongoing impeachment proceedings and Duterte’s handling of the situation.Share
