Marcos: Reskilling, upskilling initiatives to enhance job prospects

Metrosundaily January 29, 2025

THE government has strengthened its programs to reskill and upskill Filipino workers, making them more competitive and enhancing their chances of securing quality jobs, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. said on Wednesday.

The President acknowledged that the labor market has changed, noting that companies’ and businesses’ requirements have evolved, highlighting the need for workers to reskill and upskill.

Upskilling programs are part of government initiatives aimed at improving employment and livelihood. The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) helps implement them for targeted emerging industries such as renewable energy, artificial intelligence, and telehealth.

At the same time, the President recognized the contributions of the private sector, businesses, and corporations to the success of the job fair, which brought together different sectors to provide opportunities for prospective employees.

The government has initiated various efforts to support employment, including job fairs organized by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and PhilJobNet. Programs specifically designed for youth and vulnerable sectors, as are livelihood initiatives such as the TUPAD Workers Program and the DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program, are also available.

Organized through the DOLE-JobStreet partnership, JobStreet Career Con 2025 offers over 5,000 job positions locally and internationally. The job fair aims to assist workers, including those who are displaced.

More than 100 employers are participating in the event, including major companies such as SM Retail, Nestle, Metrobank, Accenture, and others from various industries, such as Information Technology (IT), Business Process Management (BPM), retail, banking, construction, logistics, food services, and manufacturing.

Organizers reported that nearly 18,000 job seekers have pre-registered, including both fresh graduates and experienced professionals.
