Marcos: Resignation doesn’t absolve accountability in flood control scandal

admin October 6, 2025

PRESIDENT Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. stated on Monday that resigning from a post is “not sufficient” to escape accountability for wrongdoing, particularly in the context of the ongoing investigations into corruption and irregularities in flood control projects.

Asked during an episode of the BBM Podcast if resignation absolves individuals of culpability, Marcos responded, “No. That’s not sufficient. That’s not enough, that’s not enough. There’s been a great deal of damage that has been caused, not only financial damage or economic damage, but actual damage to people’s lives.”

While emphasizing the need for airtight charges and solid proof to hold the “guilty ones” accountable, Marcos did not elaborate on specific actions his administration would take or provide details on the progress of investigations.

His comments come in the wake of several high-profile resignations, including that of controversial Zaldy Co as Ako Bicol party-list representative, amid allegations of his involvement in corruption in infrastructure projects. Co, a known ally of Marcos, has denied any corrupt practices. Manuel Bonoan also resigned as Secretary of the Department of Public Works and Highways in August, later stating he was taking accountability for alleged anomalous flood control projects.

The Independent Commission for Infrastructure is currently conducting an investigation into anomalies linked to flood control and other infrastructure projects over the past decade. Marcos has repeatedly emphasized the independence of this probe.
