Marcos orders strict implementation of laws vs rice smugglers, hoarders

admin September 26, 2023

PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr, determined to put an end to rice smugglers and hoarders in the Philippines, ordered on Tuesday all officials, authorities, and government agencies to strictly implement policies and laws to address rice issues in the country.

In his speech during the distribution of rice at the San Andres Sports Complex in Manila, President Marcos said hoarders, smugglers, and rice manipulators are the actual rice “weevils” that destroy the ecological balance of rice supply and demand.

The chief executive gave his assurance that smugglers, hoarders and price manipulators have no space in the “New Philippines” campaign of the administration as he emphasized that the government will relentlessly run after them to ensure an affordable staple food for the Filipino people.

The President reiterated that there is enough rice supply in the country.

The President acknowledged that this will not be an easy battle for the government as the smugglers, hoarders, and price manipulators have been operating for so long, but stressed that the administration is determined to put an end to their illegal operation.

The chief executive, also the concurrent Secretary of the Department of Agriculture (DA), also challenged the Filipino people to join with the government in the battle for victory against rice in the Philippines.
