DPWH ordered to slash construction material prices by 50%

admin October 25, 2025

DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon

PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has directed Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon to aggressively reduce the costs of construction materials for infrastructure projects “by as much as 50 percent.” This directive aims to unlock significant savings for the government, estimated to be between P30 to P45 billion.

The President’s order follows a DPWH investigation that revealed substantial overpricing of key construction materials, including asphalt, steel bars, and cement, by as much as 50 percent.

President Marcos emphasized the importance of this cost-cutting measure, stating that the savings generated could be redirected to essential public services. “This is money that we can use for services such as health, education, and food, that our people desperately need,” Marcos said. He underscored the need for transparency and efficiency in government spending, ensuring that infrastructure projects are delivered at the best possible value for the Filipino people.

The President’s directive signals a renewed focus on combating corruption and inefficiencies within the construction sector. By lowering material costs, the government aims to maximize its resources and accelerate the completion of vital infrastructure projects across the country. This initiative is expected to have a positive impact on various sectors, as the freed-up funds can be channeled into programs that directly address the needs of Filipinos in areas such as healthcare, education, and food security.
