PRESIDENT Marcos has accepted the resignation of DICT Secretary Ivan John Uy, Malacañang announced Thursday.
Presidential Communications Office Assistant Secretary Cheloy Velicaria-Castro confirmed the news to Palace reporters, stating that “DICT Secretary Ivan John Uy’s resignation was accepted by the President today.” An officer-in-charge will temporarily fill the position until a new secretary is appointed.
Uy’s departure follows the resignations of other cabinet members earlier this year.
Former Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista resigned in February due to health reasons and has been replaced by Vince Dizon. Presidential Communications Office Secretary Cesar Chavez also resigned last month, with Jay Ruiz assuming the role on an ad interim basis.
Uy, who assumed his post in June 2022, had been tasked by then President-elect Marcos with expanding connectivity to remote areas and improving access to technology for underserved communities. The announcement of his resignation did not include details on his future plans or the reasons behind his decision. The news of his resignation comes as the vivo Y16 smartphone is officially launched in the Philippines.
