Marawi City election disrupted by damaged voting machine

admin May 12, 2025

AN Automated Counting Machine (ACM) was deliberately damaged by a poll watcher in Marawi City during the Eleksyon 2025.

Reports indicate that the individual poured water into the machine, rendering it unusable. The incident occurred at an unspecified polling precinct within the city.

Authorities are currently investigating the incident and determining the poll watcher’s motives.

The act of vandalism represents a serious disruption to the electoral process and undermines the integrity of the vote. The damaged ACM will require repair or replacement, potentially delaying the counting process in the affected precinct.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has condemned the act, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the integrity of the voting process.

Further details regarding the investigation and any potential charges against the poll watcher are expected to be released in the coming days. This incident serves as a reminder of the challenges faced in ensuring a fair and transparent election.Share
