HOUSE Majority Leader Ferdinand Alexander “Sandro” A. Marcos of Ilocos Norte on Wednesday said the House leadership remains in close coordination with lawmakers from areas affected by the recent earthquake in Mindanao to determine what assistance may be needed.
Marcos made the assurance as national and local authorities continued to assess the impact of the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck off the coast of Sarangani last week.
“We are in constant communication with all of those affected to make sure that the leadership gives everything that it can sa ating mga kababayan na apektado,” Marcos said in an ambush interview.
The House leader said assistance would depend on the needs identified by local officials and affected communities.
“Whether it be MAIP or medical assistance, whether it be relief goods, whether it be anything that the House can provide,” he said.
Marcos noted that Speaker Faustino “Bojie” G. Dy III had already visited General Santos City and Sarangani province to assess conditions on the ground and coordinate with local officials.
The Speaker inspected key facilities, including the General Santos International Airport, and met with local leaders as part of the House’s ongoing response efforts.
The powerful earthquake triggered tsunami warnings and affected several provinces across Mindanao, prompting evacuations and damage assessments in a number of communities.
Marcos said the House remains prepared to provide support to affected areas as recovery efforts continue.
“We are in constant communication with all of those affected,” Marcos reiterated.
