SENATOR Loren Legarda is looking forward to returning home as she continues medical treatment abroad, her spokesperson Atty. Tony La Viña confirmed Friday.
Legarda has been away from the Senate since August 3 to address a lung‑related illness, with her last plenary attendance on July 29. She has since extended her medical leave to October 9, 2026, as she focuses on recovery under the care of her son, Batangas Representative Leandro Leviste, who has remained by her side throughout her stay in France.
La Viña explained that stress and tension directly worsen Legarda’s condition, making rest and a low‑pressure environment essential to her healing. “Her health is aggravated when there is stress or conflict. That is why she is taking this time to rest and recover properly,” he said. Leviste has been managing her medical needs and daily care, serving as her primary support system during this period. “Leandro is with her, assisting with all her medical requirements. As you know, he is her immediate family now, and that is what they are focused on,” La Viña added.
The extended leave will allow Legarda to complete her treatment and regain strength before resuming her duties as senator‑judge in the ongoing impeachment trial. No further details about her exact diagnosis or treatment plan have been disclosed, out of respect for her privacy. Her office assured the public that she remains committed to her responsibilities and intends to return to the Senate as soon as her doctors give clearance.
