THE Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) on Friday called on the Philippine National Police (PNP), National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), and all other relevant law enforcement agencies to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the murder of Atty. Maria Saniata Alzate in Abra on Thursday afternoon.
In a statement, the IBP said, ” We unite in solidarity with the legal community and the family of Atty. Alzate. We honor her memory as an esteemed public interest lawyer and a dedicated commissioner of the IBP. She upheld the highest standards of the legal profession, leaving behind an enduring legacy for all of us.
Initial investigation showed that at around 4:55 pm on Thursday, Alzate fell victim to an assailant’s bullets.
The assailants, who remain unidentified, ambushed her while she was inside her white Mitsubishi Mirage G4 sedan (with license plate AVA 6533), parked in front of her residence on Santiago Street, Zone 3, Bangued.
The assailants, having pulled over near her vehicle, callously opened fire, discharging their weapons at least eight times.
Following the attack, the victim was rushed to Dr. Petronilo V. Seares Sr. Memorial Hospital but tragically succumbed to her injuries at approximately 5:05 pm.
