THE House of Representatives is awaiting the Supreme Court’s decision on its motion for reconsideration regarding earlier impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte, according to House Public Accounts Committee chair and Justice Committee member Rep. Terry Ridon.
Ridon stated that the Supreme Court’s final ruling will determine the next steps for Congress in handling officials who can only be removed through impeachment. “Only after the Supreme Court resolves the MR can the House directly look into impeachable acts of the Vice President,” Ridon said.
A ruling favoring the House would allow the impeachment process to move forward to a Senate trial. Conversely, an adverse decision would open the door for a fresh complaint to be filed in February, under updated Supreme Court guidelines.
Ridon emphasized that the House stands ready to carry out its constitutional duties once validated impeachment complaints are filed, signaling their preparedness to act once the Supreme Court renders its decision.
