HOUSE Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez has strongly condemned the murder of Director Mauricio “Morrie” Pulhin, Chief of Technical Staff of the House Committee on Ways and Means.
Pulhin was fatally shot over the weekend.
“I am deeply saddened and outraged by the tragic death of Director Pulhin,” Romualdez said in a statement released earlier today. He described Pulhin as a “long-serving and dedicated public servant” whose “professionalism, integrity, and quiet commitment to his work earned him the respect of his peers and superiors alike.”
The Speaker called the killing a “brutal act of violence” and urged a swift and thorough investigation by the Philippine National Police (PNP), the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), and all relevant law enforcement agencies. He emphasized that all possible motives should be explored, including Pulhin’s professional affiliations.
Romualdez extended his deepest condolences to Pulhin’s family, promising to support them during this difficult time and to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice. He also addressed the House Secretariat and congressional staff, expressing shared grief and anger, and calling for unity and a demand for justice.
The Speaker concluded his statement by asserting that the crime “must not go unanswered” and that justice must prevail. The motive for the killing remains under investigation.
