House political party leaders declare support for Senate Charter reform resolution

admin January 29, 2024

POLITICAL party leaders in the House of Representatives on Monday declared their support for Resolution of Both Houses (RBH) No. 6 filed in the Senate, which proposes amendments to the Constitution’s economic provisions.

In a manifesto, the leaders of major political groups in the House also vowed to approve the resolution when it reaches the larger chamber of Congress.

“We remain steadfast in our commitment to support the historic endeavor of the Senate in its approval of the Resolution of Both Houses No. 6, and together with our dear Speaker, Honorable Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez, we stand firm in our commitment to approve RBH No. 6 in the House of Representatives,” they said.

The resolution is authored by Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri and Senators Loren Legarda and Juan Edgardo Angara.

It is entitled, “A Resolution of Both Houses of Congress proposing amendments to certain economic provisions of the 1987 Constitution of the Republic of the Philippines, particularly on Articles XII, XIV, and XVI.”

“Our collaboration with the Senate…is a testament to our shared commitment to nurturing an economic landscape that is dynamic, inclusive, and forward-thinking, ensuring that prosperity reaches every corner of our nation,” the political party leaders in the House said in their joint manifesto.

As representatives of diverse voices in the House, they said they unite “to champion the pillars of democracy that our nation holds dear.”

“The discourse on the proposed changes to the Constitution necessitates a clear and unified voice from us on these pivotal issues,” they said.

They added that they wanted to “address recent misapprehensions and misunderstandings on the need to amend the Constitution with a call for unity and constructive dialogue, the key to sustained reform and national advancement.”

They pointed out that they acknowledge the “critical need for economic revitalization” and for a “strategic reassessment of the economic clauses in our Constitution.”

“Our aim is clear: to foster an environment conducive to increased foreign investment and economic diversity,” they stressed.

Authors of the manifesto include Senior Deputy Speaker Aurelio Gonzales Jr., Majority Leader Manuel Jose Dalipe, Minority Leader Marcelino Libanan, Senior Deputy Majority Leader Ferdinand Alexander Marcos, Deputy Speakers David Suarez, Roberto Puno, Kristine Singson-Meehan, Camille Villar, Raymond Democrito Mendoza, Vincent Fraco Frasco, Yasser Alonto Balindong, and Antonio Albano;
