Hontiveros urges immediate repatriation of Pinoys from Israel, Iran

admin June 19, 2025

SENATOR Risa Hontiveros issued a strong statement today calling for the immediate repatriation of Filipino citizens residing in Israel and Iran amid the escalating conflict in the region.

She urged the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) to prioritize the safe return of Filipinos, emphasizing the need for swift action to ensure their well-being. The Senator stressed that mandatory repatriation should be considered for those in areas directly affected by missile attacks, highlighting the urgency of the situation.

Senator Hontiveros further emphasized the importance of preparedness within the Philippines to receive returning Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs).

She called for the immediate implementation of reintegration programs, livelihood assistance, and psychosocial support systems to aid evacuees upon their return.

Anticipating a potentially large-scale evacuation, the Senator stressed the need for the government to develop and implement comprehensive contingency plans to ensure a smooth and efficient repatriation process. She highlighted the unpredictable nature of the conflict, emphasizing the government’s responsibility to be prepared for all possible scenarios and to guarantee that no Filipino is left behind.

The Senator’s statement underscores the growing concern over the safety and security of Filipino citizens in the conflict zone. Her call for immediate action highlights the potential risks faced by Filipinos in the region and the government’s responsibility to protect its citizens abroad.

The emphasis on preparedness and support systems upon repatriation underscores the importance of providing comprehensive assistance to returning OFWs, ensuring their successful reintegration into Philippine society. The statement serves as a strong call to action for the government to prioritize the safety and well-being of its citizens caught in the escalating conflict.
