SENATOR Risa Hontiveros, Deputy Minority Leader, expressed optimism in finding solutions to challenges in implementing the Marawi Compensation Act during a Finance Subcommittee hearing on Tuesday, September 3, 2024.
The hearing focused on the proposed P1.164-billion budget for the Marawi Compensation Board in 2025, as outlined in the National Expenditure Program (NEP).
Hontiveros, who presided over the hearing, emphasized the importance of the Board’s role in providing much-needed assistance to the people of Marawi, who are still recovering from the devastating siege seven years ago.
“The passage of Republic Act 11696, the Marawi Compensation Act, offered a glimmer of hope for the people of Marawi, a chance to rebuild their lives and regain a semblance of normalcy,” Hontiveros stated.
“Today, we will be discussing the budget of the Marawi Compensation Board, the institution tasked with overseeing, processing, and distributing compensation to the victims and survivors of the siege,” she added.
The hearing aimed to address any obstacles hindering the Board’s ability to effectively fulfill its mandate and ensure that the allocated funds are utilized efficiently to provide timely and adequate compensation to those who suffered during the Marawi siege.
