HONEYLET Avanceña, partner of former President Rodrigo Duterte, will face a complaint for allegedly assaulting a police officer during the execution of the International Criminal Court (ICC) arrest warrant against Duterte, the Philippine National Police (PNP) announced Thursday.
PNP spokesperson Police Brigadier General Jean Fajardo stated that the injured policewoman will file a direct assault case against Avanceña.
According to Fajardo, Avanceña allegedly struck the officer in the head with a cellphone, resulting in a significant lump. The officer was assisting in clearing a path for Duterte’s arrest. Fajardo added, “We have videos that prove that Ms. Honeylet hit one of our female police officers.”
Separately, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) chief Police Major General Nicolas Torre III reported experiencing harassment from Avanceña, including being pushed and shoved. He also stated that Duterte’s daughter, Veronica “Kitty” Duterte, verbally abused him, and that Duterte himself issued threats against him and his family following his retirement from the police force.
These incidents occurred during the arrest of Duterte on Tuesday morning, following the service of the ICC arrest warrant for crimes against humanity related to his drug war. Duterte was flown to The Hague, Netherlands, and is now detained at the Scheveningen Prison awaiting trial.
